Armand was swimming in the sea near their small house. It had been a week since his Filipino father, Rudy died. With tears in his eyes he swam and swam hoping that it would ease up the pain that he was feeling deep inside. He was seven years old and was now all alone in this world. He swam and swam until he could swim no more. He stalled in the surface and looked ahead. Suddenly, he heard a faint voice behind him. He looked back and saw a young girl looking at him. She waved at him, hesitantly, he waved back at her. He smiled a little sensing that the young girl on the beach was giggling

looking at him. Slowly, he swam back towards the beach front and towards the young girl. He swam and swam until it was shallow enough for him to walk. Looking at her he walked slowly towards the young girl still looking at his face.
"Hi, I'm Andrea," smiling she introduced herself to him.
He stared at her for a moment and slowly introduced himself, "I'm Armand."
"I saw you swimming all alone in the sea, so I decided to call you," she just said looking at him.
"How long had you been watching me swim?" he asked her.
"Just now, you see my father is talking to that man," she said looking at the two men talking away from them. "Dad is selling our beach resort; we're migrating to the U.S."

"Really," he just said. "You're a very rich kid then."
"Yeah, I guess we are, you look tired. Are you hungry huh?" she asked.
      Hesitantly, he nodded .
"Good, me I'm hungry too. Come with me to that table and eat with me," the girl immediately turned around and started walking towards the table on the beach. When the girl reached the bamboo bench she immediately sat and invited Armand to sit in front of her. Armand sat and looked at the young girl as she started opening the picnic basket and took out some food. Smiling, she handed him a sandwich. He took it from her and the young girl started eating her sandwich. So Armand ate too and chewed on the sandwich from where he was sitting. "It’s delicious, right?" she asked smiling at him.

"Yeah, it definitely is, thanks," smiling a little Armand replied and continued eating.
"Who are you with?" she asked while she continued chewing on her sandwich.
"I'm all alone now, my father's gone," Armand uttered bowing his head a little.
"Really," she just said not knowing what he really meant. "Here, drink this cola too," she said as he handed him the bottle which she took out from the basket. He took it and drank.
"Thanks, you're very kind and pretty," he said looking at the beautiful young girl in front of him.
        "Really," she just said.
"Yeah, really," he uttered smiling at her in front of him.
"Andrea!" a man called out from behind her. She turned

back to the sound of the voice. It was her father calling her. "You just stay here on the beach front. I still have a lot to discuss with Julio. Who's that young boy you're with huh?" he asked aloud.
"He's Armand dad, my new friend!" she replied aloud.
"Good morning sir!" Armand greeted aloud at the young girl's father from the bamboo bench he was sitting.
"Good morning to you too young boy!" he greeted back aloud, turned around and walked with Julio towards the reception area of the big beach resort.
"You're father seems to be a good man," Armand said looking at her father as he continued walking.
"Yeah, he is. He really loves me and gives me everything that I want," she replied smiling at the young boy in front of her. The two chatted and chatted and became more

comfortable with each other. The young girl then stood up and started walking back towards the shallow sea. When she got near the shallow water she immediately sat on the fine white sand. Armand smiled looking at her so walked towards her and sat beside her. He looked at her to his right. She smiled at him. He giggled a little looking at her beautiful face.
"You really are pretty," he said once again.
"Thanks," she replied and smiled even more.
He looked at her beside her for some time and asked. "You said you're going to the U.S."
"Yeah, we are, my mother is working there and she asked dad to follow."
"You're very lucky then, you have a complete and happy family. I guess you'll be happier in the U.S. because you'll be with

with your mother," his statement looking at her beside him. He looked at her some more and glanced at the fine white sands around them. He saw a pebble and picked it up. He stood up and threw it as far as he could. It went really far ahead of them. He knelt back and picked another pebble and threw some more. It went even farther than the first pebble that he threw. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "Will you still remember me when you're already in the U.S. huh?" he asked looking back at her from where she was sitting. She looked up at him for a moment and nodded slowly.
"Yeah, I will remember you Armand," she answered.
"Me too, Andrea, you made me happy, even at this time of..." he answered. He controlled himself, knelt and picked
